Jamie Powell makes boisterous painting objects. Some feature dyed and daubed canvas wrapped, draped and dangling from painted stretcher bars. In others the picture plane is cut through with slappy suggestive shapes —  clouds, boobs, googly eyes, monster teeth, crowns, bikinis, swiss cheese, tongues. The cut outs cause the surfaces to flop in ways paintings aren’t supposed to. And the color isn’t shy either.
